Fall in Orlando means falling package prices!

September 25th, 2011

Friday was the first day of fall which barely went noticed around here in sunny Florida. We usually know it’s fall because the retail stores tell us so with Halloween decorations. The weather around here has little to do with the calendar but one noticeable change is the slow down in tourism but this is good news for you. Fewer visitors means lower prices and smaller crowds. This is an ideal time to visit Orlando with many things happening. We are in full swing with Halloween, fall inspired menus, booming nightlife and excellent package rates. Here’s my top 5 to ponder.

1. Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party – this is a special ticket event happening select days at the Magic Kingdom. Trick-or-Treat, special Halloween stage shows, Hallo-Wishes (Halloween fireworks), dancing and attractions with little to no wait time.

2. Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios – haunted house like only Universal can make them, stage shows, attractions, special Halloween/Movie inspired drinks and plenty of nightlife at CityWalk.

3. Food and Wine Festival at EPCOT with free concerts from big names acts like 38 Special, Air Supply, Boyz II Men and many more. World Showcase becomes a dining paradise with cuisine from all over the world. No reservations needed and your Epcot ticket is all you need.

4. LegoLand Florida opens October 15th! We don’t know what to expect yet but if you are here in Orlando you can be 1 of the first to know.

5. SeaWorld Spooktacular – this year there is a Halloween breakfast with Sesame street’s “The Count” along with other characters from sesame street. Select weekends also include special stage shows, trick-or-treat and a DJ playing family friendly dance music.

Did I mention that packages are at their lowest of the year right now. No, that does not include the spring/summer packages but if you are looking for something in the next 4 weeks then you are in luck!  Book your Orlando Discount Package and save money.

Thanksgiving in Orlando

September 6th, 2011

Liberty Tree TavernChances are you are thinking about fall Holiday plans and are dreading the infamous family feud that is your typical Thanksgiving dinner followed by hours of watching football while uncle John tells the same story for the 100th time. There is another option you know. You could tell the family that this year you got a great off season rate at one of our many resorts and enjoy your holiday with your family. There are plenty of places to get your turkey on at. Here are just a few ideas but remember, you need to book now before it’s too late. Besides, you need to be prepared for the question “where are we having Thanksgiving dinner this year?”.

1. Probably the most Thanksgiving’y place of all is Liberty Tree Tavern located in The Magic Kingdom. Mickey and Minnie with a few friends dressed in their colonial costumes serving american favorites family style. What is “Family Style”? This just means that you do not order from a menu but there also is not a buffet. Trays of turkey, ham, carved beef, mashed potatoes, greens, salad, bread and more just keeps coming to your table. When you run out, more magically appears. Ya, this is not a weight watchers meeting.

2. Grab a ButterBeer at the Three Broomsticks restaurant in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. No, there is no alcohol in the ButterBeer and yes this is a quick service restaurant but I don’t think your kids will mind either! Spend the day living the movie and then feast like a wizard.

3. Makahiki Christmas Luau (yep, I said Christmas) located in SeaWorld Orlando. This is a fantastic way to celebrate the Holidays Polynesian style. Excellent food, interpreted Holiday music, festive costumes and best of all, Luau dancers!

Make this the year you create a new Holiday tradition and say goodbye to the argument about which parents house to visit.

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween

August 23rd, 2011

One of the greatest treats for me as child was Halloween.  I don’t remember much about my childhood but I certainly remember Halloween with my mom. She couldn’t wait to decorate and counted down the days like it was New Years. I can remember so much about Halloween I often wonder if my kids will be the same. I take my kids to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween because it truly is a great party and my kids love showing off their customs which have also evolved into a family tradition. Here are some tips that might help you enjoy the party just a little more.

Mickey's Not Scary Halloween

1. The party starts at 7pm but your Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party ticket gets you in starting at 5pm (sometimes even sooner). You can avoid turnstile congestion by getting there early.

2. The party goes until the witching hour (12 am) so make sure your ghouls get plenty of daytime rest.

3. Don’t be to worried about topping off your candy bag at each candy station… you can top it off with good stuff just before existing the park.

4. Mickey and Minnie are in their own Halloween costumes so this is a must-get picture. Ask the PhotoPass photographers are happy to use your camera as well.

5. This might be Florida but there is still a chill in the air sometimes so bring something a bit warmer just in case.

6. Don’t miss the special parade (Boo-to-You) and FireWorks (Hallo-Wishes). Pick a spot at least 45 prior to the parade and keep in mind this is probably where you will also watch the fireworks from. This is is limited hard ticket event so the crowds won’t be as bad however, the best locations do fill up rather early.

Don’t forget to checkout our Halloween packages or our custom Disney packages.

Disney World for Teens?

July 12th, 2011

The following was written by my teen daughter for teens!

When most people think of Walt Disney World, they think of a place for families with only young children. In truth, Disney has added quite a few “thrill” rides for those who want to make their stay one to remember. Here are our Top 10 Rides for Teens!

#10 Splash Mountain: Located in The Magic Kingdom, this ride is almost guaranteed to get you wet! Follow Br’er Rabbit as he adventures to find his laughing place-the home that suits him best. Watch as he outwits Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox, escapes their nasty traps and even slips out of sticky situations! However, Br’er Rabbit’s taunting catches up with him and he is caught on top of the highest peak of Chickapin Hill! Yet Br’er Rabbit has one more trick up his sleeve, “don’t throw me down there” he pleads, “not into the Briar-Brimmed Pond”. Of course this is exactly what they do, and you go plummeting down a 5-story hill! Br’er Rabbit reaches his happy place in the pond as your journey comes to an end.

#9 Soarin’: Located in Epcot this multisensory ride is not necessarily fast or scary, but Soarin’ gives you a thrill that is hard to replicate. Buckle your seat belt as a hang glider takes you 40 feet off the ground and in front of a screen that makes you feel like you’re flying over 12 different vistas and landmarks around the world!

#8 Dinosaur: Located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, get ready to climb aboard the CTX Time Rover as a mischievous scientist gives you instructions to travel to the era of the dinosaurs and bring back a mild-mannered Iguanodon and return to present day with the 3.5-ton dinosaur in tow. Creatures are moving all around you, some are gentle giants, but other s are carnivorous beasts in search of a tasty snack. Will you find the Iguanodon and bring it back safely, or will you become history?

#7 Test Track: Located in Epcot, Test Track reaches its top speed at 65 mph on a 50-degree banked curve, making this attraction the fastest ride at WDW. Step aboard your 6-seater test vehicle and you immediately enter the world of automotive testing as you undergo the safety and quality tests that General Motors performs on every prototype it manufactures!

#6 Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: Located in The Magic Kingdom, this attraction is mostly outdoors and is based in a town called Tumbleweed- a gold digger’s paradise. After a flash flood has wiped out all the gold and driven away the miners, the locomotives begin to run out of control!  As you board this runaway train buckle up and get ready for “the wildest ride in the wilderness”!

#5 Mission: SPACE: Located in Epcot, this motion simulator thrill ride simulates what an astronaut might experience aboard a spacecraft to Mars. Step aboard you capsule alongside 3 other team members and get ready for the most intense G-forces you’ve ever experienced!

#4 Space Mountain: Located in The Magic Kingdom, this attraction is entirely indoors and in complete darkness with glowing celestial bodies! Blast off on either one of the two identical tracks-Alpha or Omega. Although its maximum speed is only 28 mph you feel you’re going much faster, so hold on!

#3 Expedition Everest: Located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a snarling beast lurks at the top of Mount Everest. Venture if you dare to the summit but beware, for somewhere in this mountain a Yeti is looking for a tasty snack! It’s a race to escape on treacherous hills and turns to make it back safely!

#2 The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror: Located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this 199 foot building is quite a site and can be seen from miles away. The drop is equivalent to falling 39 stories at record speeds! Legend has it that on a gloomy Halloween night a violent storm struck 5 unlucky souls in an elevator shaft, and they were never seen again. Now it’s your turn to enter….The Twilight Zone.

#1 Rock n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith: Located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this ride is the best of the best. Going from 0-57 mph in 2.8 seconds, this attraction takes you on twists and turns through neon signs and more in complete darkness. Meanwhile Aerosmith is blasting through 120 speakers per “limo” with some new lyrics made specifically for the attraction!

Don’t forget to book your fall Disney World package! Next, Miranda will cover thrill rides at SeaWorld.

Water Park Tips

June 22nd, 2011

You may have notice or will notice while building your custom Disney package there is a question that reads “Yes, Include the Water Parks” so here are some tips and ideas to make the water parks extra fun during your next Disney World vacation.

Disney has two water parks each with it’s own theme. Blizzard Beach has some of the tallest and fastest slides in the country while Typhoon Lagoon is possibly the most beautiful in the country. I won’t bore you with the back story on each park but here are some tips that might help make your overall experience just a bit better.

- The best advice I can give you is this, go after 2pm. I know some of you are probably thinking “what the heck man? half the day is over at that point”. Why fight the crowds and be honest, do you think you family will be able to handle 11 hours at the park anyway? 6 hours is plenty of time when you consider the wait times are almost gone… that’s right, almost no wait time for the best attractions even during the busiest times of year.

- Take a cooler. The cooler policy at Disney’s Water Parks is different from that of Disney’s Theme Parks. You can even pull in one of those large wheeled coolers. Just no glass or alcohol. Pack it to the brim with snacks, water and juice boxes. Throw in a large freezer back to store wallets etc.

- Lockers and premium spaces go half price at 2pm at Disney’s Blizzard Beach and 6pm at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon.

- Premium spaces, skip’em! You’ll see why after you have spent a day at the water parks.

- Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon was built first and does not have the automatic raft return systems that Blizzard Beach has which means you will have to lug your raft to the top of the rides at Typhoon Lagoon. This isn’t really a tip but more of a warning if you are only planning to visit one park you’ll probably prefer Blizzard Beach.

- Water Shoes, buy a pair! I’m not talking about flip-flops. The cement gets really hot and you are going to wish you had shoes on.

- Water Camera, get one, you can even buy a disposable water proof camera.

I hope this information helps make you next Disney Vacation a memorable one and don’t forget we also offer Sea World packages.

Dinner and a Movie at Disney World

June 20th, 2011

You booked your Disney World package, got your Disney Tickets, maybe a day at Sea World and a day Universal Studios… now, your thinking, maybe we want a slow relaxing day. Here’s a suggestion. Dinner and a movie but lets take it one step further, what if you had your dinner while watching a movie? AMC Theaters at Downtown Disney has a brand new offering called “Fork and Screen”. Here’s how it works. You purchase your tickets online, select your seats and arrive at the start time of the movie. No more worrying about arriving early to get the best seats and load up on snacks at the concessions! When you arrive at the movie you are shown to your seat where you will find a nice table and comfy seats. Grab a menu and relax with a beer! When you are ready to order you simply push the call button and a server arrives at your seat to take your order. Sounds expensive, right? Not as much as you might think. I recently treated my family of 5 to dinner and movie for just over $100 (including tax and tip) and it was a fantastic experience. We had a relaxing day shopping at Downtown Disney’s Marketplace, saw a great movie and had a wonderful meal as a family. No stress, no frustration, no waiting in lines and everyone got what they want.

We offer several Disney World Packages with resorts in the Downtown Disney area with the best prices to boot!  Don’t forget to reserve your seats by click here.
